How do you stay focused in a world that’s constantly distracting you from your determination?
How do you stay disciplined towards your goals and what is important to you?
Let’s begin with the definition of the word discipline.
The word “discipline” is from the Latin word disciplina, meaning “instruction and training.” It is derived from the root word discere—“to learn.”
Discipline means to study, learn, train, and apply a system of standards. It is something that you do for yourself. It is a decision.
Discipline is one of the most important personality traits in one’s life. Discipline creates habits, habits make routines, and routines become who you are.
When you understand discipline is a choice, you are in control—not anyone or anything else. More discipline, more choice, more control. Less discipline, less choice, less control.
A majority of mankind lives in the world without; few have found the world within, and yet it is the world within that makes the world without; it is therefore creative and everything which you find in your world without has been created by you in the world within.

So now the question is, “How disciplined have you been recently within your life”?
We’ve all gone through times of procrastination, self-indulgence and recklessness, but it’s how you manage your thoughts and actions that will determine your results. Are you disciplined at work but fail to follow through on your personal goals? Perhaps you’re disciplined with going to the gym but lack discipline when it comes to your diet. The combinations are endless.
Wherever you find yourself, here are four simple habits to help you become more focused and disciplined.
1. Write down your goals and keep them where you can read them multiple times per day. Ensure that you can measure your progress by making them SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timed).
2. Map out your calendar to ensure that you have the time needed to do the activities that you want to complete to advance your goals. Be honest about what is and isn’t working and course correct along the way.
3. Celebrate every success – large or small! Be proud of yourself and your accomplishments.
4. Persistence helps us to not give up, even when we fail. With it we get up, dust ourselves off, learn from the experience and carry on with our goals. Find yourself an accountability partner. Someone who is going to stand by you, and guide you to move forward.
Harmony in the world within means the ability to control our thoughts, and to determine for ourselves how any experience is to affect us.
