4 Ways I Found Magic Again As My Purpose

minutes remaining

I found magic again after “losing it” around the age of 6 or 7, which is when most of us move into what’s generally called “the Age of Reason.”

I grew up in a simpler time on the plains of Wyoming in a town of 10,000–a time before screens. Kids tended to believe in Santa Claus a lot longer than they do these days.

I initially fought hard to keep magical thinking, telling my parents adamantly that if there were no Santa, at least there was still Peter Pan! But then I gradually let go of Peter, too–not really aware that doing so meant I was also losing my daily pursuit of and belief in all things magical.

After all, my growing awareness was now channeled into so many other directions as I dove into my first grade studies. While I still had a vivid imagination, using it wasn’t the same as I studied scientific facts and got good at logical thinking.

I almost found magic again decades later, but didn’t. At some point in my business life I read Napoleon Hill’s book THINK AND GROW RICH.

Now, let us go back to the starting point, and become informed as to how the original seed of an idea, plan, or purpose may be planted in the mind. The information is easily conveyed: any idea, plan, or purpose may be placed in the mind through repetition of thought.

From Chapter 3 “Faith: Visualization of, and Belief in Attainment of Desire,” Napoleon Hill gives instructions to write out a statement of your major purpose, or Definite Chief Aim, commit it to memory, and repeat it, in audible words, day after day, until these vibrations of sound have reached your subconscious mind.

Not noticing the recommendation to use it as a workbook, I missed the opportunity to go back in time “to the starting point” and do the introspection needed to uncover what my core divinely-given purpose might be and the deepest desires connected to it.

The idea of having a Definite Major Purpose (DMP) intrigued me, but I confused it with having goals, which I had plenty of those. Because I only scanned the concepts, I didn’t take time to write a DMP, confusing my purpose in life with my career.

The First Way I Found Magic Again: MKE

Then in September 2020, I accepted a scholarship for the Master Key Experience and all this came up for me again. An assignment was to do as Napoleon Hill suggested. We were asked to write our answer to that deceptively simple question: “What Do You Want?” Honestly, I didn’t know, and I struggled with an answer. So I wrote something about career and goals and turned it into my supportive Guide for her guidance.

She sent it back with excellent questions to help me dig deeper.

Each week there were more questions and my frustration built.

I soul-searched and found other ideas to put into words, trying to anchor what had turned into a swirling haze around my DMP.

It just didn’t feel right somehow.

We were learning in our class sessions and reading assignments that, as Napoleon Hill, Charles Haanel, Og Mandino, Ralph Waldo Emerson and others were all saying, the clearer the “think” behind the DMP, the greater the “grow rich” impact the words could have on our subconscious.

As I read my DMP draft aloud three times a day and sat with it, I wrote and rewrote. Yet each week for 3 months my Guide returned helpful suggestions for even more revisions. I soul-searched and stretched for more and better. Each week I continued poking around in my psyche.

The Second Way I Found Magic Again: Questions

Then we were introduced to a compelling question with its haunting challenge: “What am I pretending not to know?” The habit of the daily “sit” we’d started at the beginning of MKE became crucial for pondering this day after day, too.

Then another question was introduced. “Can your DMP be understood by a 6-year-old child?” We learned that this makes sense because our unique personality and probably purest state of being is before that “Age of Reason” kicks in when we pile on cultural and societal rules, expectations, beliefs, and behaviors.

These two questions freed me up to start thinking about myself as a child and about what I was like.

I found MAGIC again as I remembered my pre-school play.

The Third Way I Found Magic Again: Remembering

Our childhood remembered brings gifts of insight.

I imagined myself back before first grade. I remembered the hours of delight I had playing by myself in the yellow-painted cubby outside the kitchen of our apartment. My brother and his friend liked running all over the neighborhood playing cowboys with their cap guns or playing sports of one kind or another and wanted me to join them.

But I wanted quiet. I’d forgotten that I’d imagine myself as my favorite storybook characters–Snow White, Peter Pan, Cinderella, and more. I just loved the magic that each had in their lives!

How had I forgotten the hours I’d spend that way, desperately desiring to bring magical power into my own life? Wave a wand and have pretty clothes! Have animals that talk with you! Make ugly things beautiful!

I was even fascinated by the electrical sockets all over our apartment and truly enjoyed the unusual surge of energy I got poking a bobby pin into them, wondering if that was magic. Of course my parents firmly put an end to that, so then I happened on what I called my I AM game.

Some of the time I’d acknowledge that I wasn’t really any of those characters and that I didn’t yet have their magic I so longed for. At those times, I’d repeat “I am” over and over and over till I shivered a similar thrill to poking the electrical socket. I had thrilled to total awareness of being, total consciousness, for a few seconds at a time.

So through the MKE exercises and questions I had finally discovered what I was pretending not to know! I found magic again. I had spent delightful years being intrigued by magic and by trying to find it in all the ways open to an imaginative child!

The Fourth Way I Found Magic Again: Wording my DMP

I had found magic again, but getting magic back into my adult life took some effort. I was actually a little embarrassed that searching for magic and finding ways to make it reality in the real world could be the core of my purpose in life.

Then another awareness took shape. You know how until you buy a blue car you never noticed blue cars, and now they’re all around you? The same thing happened with MKE.

I began to hear people using words like “miracles” and “manifestations” and “authentic magic” to describe what was happening as they were effectively using the MKE tools to focus and apply the 7 Laws of the Mind we were being taught.

We were all astonished that this could be true. We also heard Guide stories and former student stories of their success in accomplishing things they’d written in their DMP–thoughts becoming real things!

So over the next weeks I pulled all these awarenesses together and haltingly asked for and got additional feedback from intimate friends and family, additional Guides, and my MKE “tribe” learning with me.

Do you see in me such a seemingly weird purpose as seeking magic and training others how to have it in their own lives? Encouraged by their enthusiastic feedback, I dove into writing an expanded press release version of my DMP–an assignment designed to put us in a moment when the DMP had been accomplished.

Having no word limit freed me up in a way that I’d not felt with the several hundred word limit of the actual DMP. Amazingly, the “chore” part of the assignment fell away as I was finally able to see my love of seeking magic, and combined it with a back-burner goal of having my own radio show again. I imagined being interviewed by a classmate-turned-journalist back in my home town in Wyoming in the radio station where I got my first taste of the delight of broadcasting.

The press release celebrated the success of my international radio show, “The Detective of Magic.” Wow! I had truly succeeded in uncovering and making real my longest, deepest, and clearly divinely-inspire desires as they showed forth in my childhood experiences, my personality, my gifts of spirit, and my imagination.

I felt SO GOOD knowing that I had truly found what I’d pretended not to know, reclaimed my childhood inspirations, and found authentic ways to be of service in our world while living out my own burning desire. Wow. Just wow.

If you’re curious if others writing their DMP have a similar experience to mine as you tackle writing your own, you might want to check out Candy Sheffield’s description of her similar experience here: Do You Have a Clear Picture? or this blog by Eulaine Melanson: What is Your Purpose in Life?

Are You Ready to Find Your Magic? Your Purpose?

After decades of searching, I’m so grateful to be part of the MKE where we learn from others and 4000 years of wisdom all the ways to put into words our Definite Major Purpose and to get the tools to make our burning desires come true.

We can take our lives to the next level by learning more about how the Hero’s Journey works best, masterminding with others about what’s working for them, and creating habits to make it–as I wrote about here–the Adventure of a Lifetime we are meant to have!

I understand if, up till now, you’ve not had something like this and have been missing out. I skimmed life, too. So, if you’re ready to stop skimming and join a powerful Master Mind of like spirits, we can help.

On this website, put your name on the waiting list for the next Master Key Experience course, and then download and try one of our powerful tools: the 7-Day Mental Diet.

While you’re thinking about it, do two things now. (1) Put the MKE on your calendar for the last Sunday of September. (2) Start the 7-Day Mental Diet.

You know what they say–if not now, when? If not you, who? Enriching your life by putting words and ACTIONS into your written Definite Major Purpose is a key, and no one can get the key to YOUR experience but YOU.

No one can get through what’s locking that door to your total effectiveness but YOU–it’s a YOU-shaped key. No one can make it work except YOU. And Master Key Experience can help you turn it in the lock!

I wish you all the best!
