What does Freedom Look Like to You?

Freedom

It’s that time of the year where Americans celebrate their freedom. The flags are waving. The bravado is bigger. The fireworks are bursting. It has become a summer staple. This year it was all bigger and better than ever, as we celebrated our 250th birthday. But what is freedom really?

We can study the history books all we want, but individual freedoms are different for all of us.

Freedom and the Stages of Life

When I look back at the different stages of my life, it represented everything I wanted.

When I was little, I couldn’t wait until I was a teenager. I could drive!

Remember that? I wanted a car SO badly. I babysat, delivered papers, and did odd jobs to get that first car. Do you remember yours? Mine was a 1976 Ford Granada. it wasn’t fancy, but I could just get in and go. I think for many of us, that rite of passage was our first taste of true freedom. We cherished it. We loved it and breathed it in every chance we got.

Many of us learned that the concept of freedom changes quickly.

Our responsibilities did that. For some it was college. Others went to work or joined the service. And then there were the ones , like myself, who started a family. Planned or not, life changes.

Freedom became “I want better for my children”. A job that is more than enough. A home to create memories in. Vacations to the beach.

Losing Touch with Freedom

Now I don’t know when I lost touch with what freedom meant to me. I am not sure when I stopped dreaming dreams to pursue, but I know that I did.

Life happens. I stopped creating and barely existed. I went into a deep depression and dark time. My addictions took over.

I don’t tell you this for sympathy. Quite the opposite. I share my story for hope.

Re-discovering Freedom

You see, divorce became freedom from abuse.

And shortly after, sobriety became freedom from bondage.

In the years after that, I have been on a self discovery journey. One that led me to the Master Key Experience course. Through which I have the freedom to truly discover me.

Not the scared little girl. Not the teenager trying to fit in. Not the adult conforming to what society says I should be, or how I should act. I get to explore the divine soul I was meant to be.

Tearing down decades of cement, walls, conditioning, trauma, and programming isn’t for the weak of heart. It is messy and emotional and requires a huge amount of honesty and accountability for my own actions.

I mean, who wants to admit that their programming is the source of all their troubles? No one does. But guess what is on the other side of it?

Freedom.

Freedom like we haven’t experienced since we were children, before the world dug it’s claws in.

That freedom is priceless. It is worth every second of work put towards it. Why? Because you finally are truly free in the eyes of the one who matters most. Yourself.

I hope you give yourself the gift of that freedom. You are worth it.
