A Poem for the 17 Success Principles

In Chapter 2 of Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude by Napoleon Hill and W Clement Stone there are 17 Success Principles that readers of this outstanding classic are asked to memorize. Although not in the same order as they are listed in Chapter 2, all 17 are included in the following poem, and designated (1) –> (17).

Enjoy!

My Poem

I took little Penny’s hand in mine and took her for a walk. I knew at the ripe old age of seven this would be the perfect time to talk.

I mentioned to her there are some important things to know. As we headed out the door. I told her to pay very close attention, because controlled attention (10) was one of the 17 principles we would explore.

The first thing we came upon was hanging from a tree. Sparkling brightly in the midday sunlight with drops of morning dew — a chain and talisman swaying slightly in a breeze. I took it down and placed it ’round my daughter’s neck and whispered “This was meant for you.”

With a giggle and a smile to welcome this unexpected surprise, I showed her the PMA (1) and the NMA written front to back. Explaining the meaning of these letters and why PMA always stood in front; the wrinkle in her brow told me in an instant she already had what most people lack.

Positive mental attitude (PMA) and negative mental attitude (NMA) are what these letters stand for. I asked her in a quiet voice which of these we all want to see. Happy or sad, loving or mad, which goes with which? She knew right away as my heart skipped a beat, when she said, “This PMA has got to be me.”

Grabbing my thumb I could tell she was anxious to go. Since we lived in the country we soon came to a fork in the dusty road. Explaining small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, and great minds talk about ideas, I picked her up to sit on my shoulders, quite content to carry this additional load.

Such a heavy concept for this young mind to comprehend, I explained soon it would be her duty, her DMP (2), to show others the way. This in mind, I asked her to close her eyes and create a vision (3) — a vision filled with all kinds of people, eager to hear what you have to say.

Millions of people all over the world, most of them stuck in self-imposed webs, who want to be free. So it matters not whither ye go, with so many caught and waiting for thee.

Waiting to hear the explanation of how PMA mixed with a DMP is the formula they have longed for and hoped someday they’d see. Awakened by your effervescent enthusiasm (4) overflowing, the good Lord has made the ruling, “Let it be!“

You know how much I love you with all my heart and my soul. However, there will come a time when I’m no longer by your side. No matter how much I’ll always want to do so, unable to bend and lift and give you a horsieback ride.

When out on your own, you need to get pisd -– spelled P, I, S, D. You must have personal initiative (5) and self-discipline (6) every day. You must become a self-directed thinker, a self-leader with pride. Ready to go the extra mile (7) just to show them the way.

So complete you’ve applied faith (8) in what you’re doing, when hit hardest by problems, you can learn from defeat (9). You must move like a cat spelled with a C, 2A’s, and a T. Controlled attention (10) and accurate thinking (11) makes you elite.

Whether it’s budgeting time and money (12), Or maintaining sound physical and mental health (13), There are always a few like-minded people, who can provide this kind of wealth.

When it comes to a plan of action, involving the labor of more than just one, simply takes teamwork (14). Working together takes less time and you’re done.

When it comes to a plan of action, to keep you on the path and from falling behind, use your pleasing personality (15) to attract a like-minded person or two, to talk things over – a mastermind (16).

Finally, always obey the law – Universal Law, I’m sure you already know that, of course. However, this law has a very special name. It’s called cosmic habit force (17).

So What Do the 17 Success Principles Look Like?

I hope you enjoyed the 17 success principle poem!

I continue to find deep inspiration from several sources, but my friends from the Master Key Experience (MKE) who encourage me to stay true to the success formula, and keep sharing their own successes, well, that’s just pure magic for me.

Take Michael Puffer, for example. Michael is also a Guide in the MKE, and he’s launching a charity to help those with brain injuries. Then there’s Darren Davis, another Guide, who, along with this sons, created the Global Heroes series to honor those who are going the extra mile for others. So many others who have finished the MKE program and created success in their lives continue to give back, and I am honored to be one of them.

  • So what does success look like for you?
  • Do you know what you want?
  • Are you living the success formula to get it?

The hands-on support, the real-life advice from people who have been there and done that is worth the price of admission (only $1, by the way)!
