Being Present – Being Silent

minutes remaining

In an effort to promote being present, recently I have decided to re-read a very small but very valuable book called The Practice of the Presence of God, just a few pages at a time to soak in all I can. What a powerful book that really explains very clearly what it means to be in God’s presence constantly and live out of that place. This is truly my heart’s deepest desire, and this is the center point of my life.

The author Brother Lawrence lived his life with the claim “I am doing now what I will do for all eternity. I am blessing God, praising Him, adoring Him, and loving Him with all my heart.”

The Image of God — Being Present

Brother Lawrence is a humble servant who was so dedicated to fully focus on the most important thing as a created being. We are created in the image of God. What does this mean? Many of us search for the meaning of life and purpose of life. The answer is right here that we live as God’s creation. God is Love. He loves His creation and His creation loves Him.

How do we connect to the Presence of God? How do we love God? How do we know that God loves me? There is no way to do this without being silent, tuning out the external noises and distractions, and being present.

God dwells within me and it is in this deep place I can quiet myself to be able to be in His presence and connect with Him spiritually and experience His Love which fuels my life.

Master Key System

The week 4 of the Master Key System really drives home this very important aspect in a few places:

…the “World Within” is controlled by the “I” and that this “I” is a part or one with the Infinite “I” which is the Universal Energy or Spirit, usually called God.

Charles Haanel, 4:15

Here we can see the importance of “World Within” where we connect with God.

…the Bible says exactly the same thing, and the language is just as plain and convincing: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of the living God?” Here, then, is the secret of the wonderful creative power of the “World Within.”

Charles Haanel, 4:19

“World Within”. This is where we connect with God and be in His Presence. Without entering into this inner place of ourselves, we are not able to claim that we are living in God’s presence consciously or being present with Him.

Over-work or over-play or over-bodily activity of any kind produces conditions of mental apathy and stagnation which makes it impossible to do the more important work which results in a realization of conscious power. We should, therefore, seek the Silence frequently. Power comes through repose; it is in the Silence that we can be still, and when we are still, we can think, and thought is the secret of all attainment.

Charles Haanel, 4:24

The Sit

One piece of the crucial work and training for being present in our Master Key Experience (MKE) journey is this training of “Sit” or “Being Silent”. We practice in progression as we first learn to relax physically, relax our mind, and being able to eliminate all negative thoughts and distractions.

Yes, it’s not easy at the beginning. It takes daily practice to even sit quietly for a few minutes. But if you keep on working at it, you can get to the place where you are in a place of tranquility, peace, inner joy.

I started the MKE 5 years ago and this is the valuable practice that I continue on deepening every day. I live near the Lake and part of my daily routine is to sit by the water, enjoying the nature looking at the wide open water, sound of the waves, trees and wild flowers along the road side. Each time, I find myself relaxing physically, clearing my mind and internal peace and joy of being alive, being one with God and nature. I’m sharing my “Sit” location at the Lake above.

I am forever grateful for this practice through MKE and being able to continue deepening my inner connection more and more.

  • Very well said Esther and I love the connections from our Master Key Experience to real world examples to our connection to God in our lives.

  • Thank you for sharing Esther! Many times is it the small things that matter most and it can be easy to think that sitting in silence every day doesn’t matter so much. But to sit every day creates magic!

  • Esther, I enjoyed your blog and all its neat reminders about God, the world within that is controlled by “I”, and the importance of daily doing a “sit”. Thanks too for sharing your sit , where you go to be silent, and making your self available for God to speak to you. Since you practice doing a sit in progression ( relaxing physically, relaxing your mind, and eliminating any negative thoughts that seem to pop in your head), what was the hardest one to master?

    • Hi Eulaine, thank you for reading my blog and leaving your comment. The hardest part, I would say, it was relaxing mind as many thoughts would fill your mind and racing through. But being observant of my thoughts, sorting through, and replacing the negative thoughts (lies) with the positive thoughts (truth) helped this process.

  • I love the peace that you bring through your faith and in the “quiet” of the sit. Thank you for sharing this beauty.

    • Thank you, Pammy! It was truly my joy that I was able to share my blog tonight in Clubhouse! Thank you for organizing this great opportunity for us to share our MKE journey with the world!

  • The sit is definitely a powerful tool for reflection, self-care, making decisions, being present, and tuning in. I loved hearing you read your post on Clubhouse today and appreciate your recommendation to download the “Mindshift: 7-Day Mental Diet” to help us develop this critical skill! (Access your own copy of this ebook from the sidbar). Thank you for sharing the beautiful picture of where you “sit” each day–you’ve inspired me to take my own sit into nature more often! 🙂
