Discovering the Effortless Life, Part 1 – Acceptance

Part 1: Acceptance

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live effortlessly? Are you living with ease—or with stress and struggle?

One of the most powerful concepts I’ve learned through the Master Key Experience (MKE) is the Law of Least Effort. During Week 23 of the program, we were introduced to this principle as a daily reading and reflection. This is based on The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra.

Law of Least Effort

Acceptance:

I will practice Acceptance. Today I will accept people, situations, circumstances, and events as the occur. I will know that this moment is as it should be, because the whole universe is as it should be. I will not struggle against the whole universe by struggling against this moment. Deepak Chopra

Responsibility:

The second thing is to take responsibility for your situation and for all the events you see as problems. This means not blaming anyone or anything for your situation, including yourself. Deepak Chopra

Defenselessness:

The third component of the Law of Least Effort is defenselessness, which means that your awareness is established in defenselessness, and you have relinquished the need to convince or persuade others of your point of view. Deepak Chopra

Living by this law means practicing Acceptance, Responsibility, and Defenselessness daily. These three tenets have been life-changing for me.

I’ve meditated on them for years, and throughout the day, I often pause and recite them as part of my affirmation to be calm, peaceful, confident, and loving.

Let’s explore Acceptance more deeply.

Acceptance: A Practice, Not a Switch

The phrase “I will practice Acceptance” reminds me that it’s a journey. Acceptance doesn’t happen just because we want it—it requires intention and repetition.

As the MKE says, “Perfect Practice Prevents Poor Performance.” Daily practice is key to real personal growth.

Each morning, before I get out of bed, I ground myself with gratitude and faith:
 “Yes, Lord! Thank you, Jesus!”
This sets the tone for the day—surrendering control and trusting that God will lead.

Living in the Present

The Law of Least Effort teaches:
“Today I will accept the people, situations, circumstances, and events as they occur.”

Effortless Life, but on purpose – not adrift

The word “Today” is powerful—it anchors us in the present. This day will never come again. Why waste it resisting what is?

We can’t control other people or every situation. But we can control our response. Accepting what’s in front of us, doing what we can, and letting go of the rest—that’s true freedom.

Trusting the Bigger Picture

“This moment is as it should be, because the whole universe is as it should be.”

We rarely see the full picture. Things may feel unfair or confusing now, but over time, meaning often reveals itself.

We don’t always get to understand everything in the moment, and that’s okay. Faith means trusting that, in the end, it will all make sense—even if we don’t see the final outcome in this lifetime.

Letting Go of Struggle

“I will not struggle against the whole universe by struggling against this moment.”

This line freed me. I used to fight reality, trying to control outcomes. It only led to stress and disappointment. But the truth is, we can’t control everything—and we don’t need to.

Surrendering to what is brings peace. It’s not giving up—it’s allowing life to unfold while we stay centered and calm.

Complete Acceptance

“My acceptance is total and complete. I accept things as they are in this moment, not as I wish they were.”

Partial acceptance still breeds frustration. We must accept fully, or we’ll continue resisting internally. Resistance robs us of peace. Acceptance invites calm and clarity.

The Path to an Effortless Life

An effortless life isn’t one without challenges—it’s one where we stop resisting them. We often try to avoid pain or force comfort, but that only leads to more struggle.
Instead, practice acceptance moment by moment.

Don’t fight the now. Embrace it.

  • Thank you, Esther, for your clear and straightforward article on the Law of Least Effort! I’d just like to add this: Your present moment is yours to live and experience, it’s not for anybody else. Just as much as the present moment of others has no value for you. With the electronic media sharing so much information, so many personal success stories, you can get the impression that others make progress while you are locked in. it’s important during these periods when you encounter obstacles or experience stagnation, to keep that focus on controlling your own thoughts, carving out your own path, working your own routines to obtain insights for self-fulfilment. This makes Acceptance a very individual quality, just like Responsibility and Defencelessness.

  • I love this blog! It’s so true! I learned this first hand last year when i realized that living life with a “white knuckle grip” was stressing me out! So I eased up and now have a “firm grip” on the important things only. I’m MUCH calmer!

    • Thank you, Stephanie, for your personal testimony of how this effortless life is possible and how beautiful it is for each of us.

  • Hi Esther!
Isn’t it Deepak Chopra who said, “Do a lot, accomplish very little. Do a little, accomplish a lot. Do nothing, accomplish everything.” ?

    • Amen to that, Loren! I am focusing on “Do nothing” more and more recently realizing that it is not depends on my own efforts but living out my life with God’s guidance and direction. Especially when I sit with Him in silence long enough, everything is so easy and smooth in my life. Truly a blessing to trust and depend on Him completely!

  • Wow! Such a straightforward explanation regarding the Acceptance aspect of the Law of Least Effort. Great reminder of how importance this is to having a healthy mindset

  • Esther, this was a particularly helpful reminder to me! “We rarely see the full picture. Things may feel unfair or confusing now, but over time, meaning often reveals itself.” I wish I had known that decades ago! Time clarifies SO MANY things.

    • Shirley, I agree with you too as I wish I knew this principle many years ago when I was struggling through life. But here we are, living our life in a peaceful, powerful, fun, and intimate way, right? Thank you for walking this journey together!

  • This reflection on Acceptance through the lens of the Law of Least Effort is deeply resonant. I appreciate how you’ve broken down the principle into something truly actionable—it’s not just a concept, but a practice. The reminder that acceptance is a journey, not a switch, really struck me. It’s so easy to slip into resistance when life feels unpredictable, but your words helped me see how surrender isn’t passive—it’s powerful.

The line “I will not struggle against the whole universe by struggling against this moment” has stayed with me. It’s such a liberating perspective. Thank you for sharing your journey and how MKE has helped shape it. I’m inspired to recommit to daily reflection and begin applying this more intentionally in my own life.

    • Thank you, Cindy, for your encouraging words. Yes, truly freeing and powerful life we can live when we apply this simple principle, right? We are so blessed to walk in this journey together in this loving community of MKE!

  • Great steps here Esther!! Acceptance, without that there is now working on anything. Take Responsibility…I love this one. What could I have done to create a different outcome? Positive or Negative, personal responsibility for it all. To release the need to be right or it be my way…woah!!!! Thats a step isn’t it??? Thanks again Esther. Appreciate this blog.

    • Candy, yes, indeed, I love all 3 principles of this Law of Least effort. I am going to continue to unpack the second (Responsibility) and third (Defencelessness) in my upcoming blogs as a sequel to this one. 🙂

  • Great blog Esther, great point about shifting from the stress of trying to control everything (which is impossible to do) to accepting whatever will happen is what should happen

    • That’s right, Benjamin, it is very simple principle but sometimes we do struggle letting go of this control, right? But when we do apply, it is so powerful and freeing at the same time.

  • Esther, thank you for your insight on “The Law of Least Effort”. As I read your Blog, it confirmed my understanding at a deeper level. This awareness has been manifesting slowly in my life. Your words about not struggling against the moment really landed for me… it’s a reminder I truly needed. And I love how you highlighted that acceptance isn’t passive, that’s it’s a strong, conscious choice, moment by moment. You captured that so beautifully.

Thank you for being a steady voice and example in our Master Key community. xoxo p.s. I can’t wait to read Part 2!
