Grief Is a Strange Animal: How the Master Key Experience Is Helping Me Walk Through It

When I lost my mum recently, I was gutted. There’s no pretty way to say it… grief doesn’t ask for permission before it floods you. It’s wild. Unexpected.

Sometimes quiet, sometimes screaming. One moment I feel strong, and the next I’m curled up in memories and tears.

Grief is a strange animal. It slithers into everything: your thoughts, your body, your rhythm. It makes the world feel different, even if nothing else around you has changed.

But here’s the beautiful, surprising part: I’ve been walking through this grief in a way that I didn’t expect. And I owe much of that to the Master Key Experience (MKE).

The Observer Within

MKE teaches us to observe our thoughts without becoming them. That one practice – learning to pause, notice, and choose – has been my lifeline. When grief wants to take over, when the waves come, I remember I am the observer. I can feel it fully and still stay grounded.

It doesn’t mean the pain disappears. It means I can hold space for it without letting it consume me.

The Power of a Definite Major Purpose

In the past, grief might have stopped me in my tracks, in fact, it did. But because I’ve spent years now crafting and living from my DMP, I’ve got a lighthouse, the beacon lighting my way. A reason to keep moving. A reminder that I still have purpose.

My mum believed in my purpose too and now I honor her by continuing the work.

MKE gave me the inner tools to keep showing up, even in sorrow.

The Silent Sit

Ah, the sit. The stillness. I’ve never appreciated it more. In the silence, I’ve connected with her. Not just as a memory, but energetically. Spiritually. There’s something sacred about that pause where grief and love can coexist, where I can listen inward and upward.

Old Blueprint vs New Understanding

My old blueprint would’ve wanted to retreat, to shut down. But thanks to the MKE, my new blueprint is rooted in faith, in vision, and in service. That’s not a bypass, either, it’s a bridge.  A new way to walk with grief, without getting lost in it.

Some Final Thoughts

Grief is still strange. And hard. And unpredictable. And absolutely, unavoidable.

But I’m stronger than I realized.

Not because I’m avoiding it, but because the Master Key Experience taught me how to walk through it. How to meet it with awareness, compassion, and purpose.

grief

If you’re grieving – or facing any kind of loss – know that your thoughts really matter. Your inner world matters. And you can rewire your response to pain. Not to avoid it, but to move through it with grace.

And if that’s something you’re seeking… the Master Key Experience might just be your path, too. Where in your life are you experiencing loss or transition?

What would it look like to meet that space as the observer, instead of the overwhelmed? These questions arise for those on the hero’s journey

If this resonates with you, I invite you to explore the Master Key Experience. It’s not just a course.  It’s a transformation. And it’s here when life shows up hardest. Click here to get on the list for a scholarship. You can’t buy a seat in the class.

  • I’m so grateful to share this with others I know trying to navigate well the loss of a parent, Laura, or any grief that feels like a drowning. Your words are so clear and helpful. I especially love that you share what you found in your sits with your grief–that you connected with your mum “Not just as a memory, but energetically. Spiritually. There’s something sacred about that pause where grief and love can coexist, where I can listen inward and upward.” Profound.

“Grief is a strange animal. It slithers into everything: your thoughts, your body, your rhythm. It makes the world feel different, even if nothing else around you has changed.”
You are amazing and I’m so glad MKE is an underlying support for you through this process.

  • Beautiful sentiments. We often lose our way when the anchor of our life is suddenly swept away by the storm. The MKE brings the perspective that most people do not have and the roots of it go deep and sustain us with the sit, learning to make our thoughts what we would have them to be! Ultimately my faith in Jesus has sustained me during the hardest times in my life. But the MKE can build on any faith!!

  • Move through grief with grace, now that’s some good advice. Mahalo, Laura, for sharing so honestly! When I lost my mom at age 28 with 2 babies, it was devastating, and I’m not positive I’m over it or ever will be – I will always mourn my Mom, but I can move through it with grace! This is so helpful to me Mahalo, love you!

  • I love this Laura. I remember when my Dad passed away that my main tool was gratitude, which really helped. But that was before I was part of the Master Key Experience. Now there are so many more tools. Thanks for sharing!

  • As I read the words you wrote, about the “Sit” a peace enfolded me taking me into a space of gratitude for MKE and its members. Your words resonated deeply with me. “Ah, the sit. The stillness. I’ve never appreciated it more. In the silence, I’ve connected with her. Not just as a memory, but energetically. Spiritually.” Yes, there is “something sacred about that pause where grief and love can coexist, where I can listen inward and upward.” Absolutely lovely! Thank you!
