The Greatest Influence Happens in the Small Moments
This weekend, I’m spending time on a camping trip with my grandchildren. We’ve traded busy schedules for campfires, fresh air, laughter, and simple moments together.
As I sit and watch them explore the world with curiosity and joy, I’m reminded of something that often gets overlooked in our culture: influence isn’t measured by how many people know your name. It’s measured by the lives you touch.
We often think our influence comes from speaking on stages, growing our businesses, or building an online audience. Those things certainly have value, but they aren’t the only places where influence happens.
Some of the most meaningful influence happens quietly.
It happens while walking a trail together.
It happens while making s’mores around a campfire.
It happens when a grandchild asks a question about God, kindness, or life.
It happens when they watch how we respond when plans change, when the weather doesn’t cooperate, or when someone needs encouragement.

Children are Always Watching
Children are always watching. They learn far more from what we do than from what we say.
As a grandma, I realize that these moments are gifts. Every conversation, every hug, every prayer before bedtime, and every story I share is an opportunity to plant seeds that may grow for years to come.
My faith reminds me that Jesus often taught in ordinary places. He walked with people, shared meals, and met them where they were. He showed us that everyday moments can have eternal significance.
That’s encouraging because it means I don’t have to wait for a “big opportunity” to make a difference. I can influence the world simply by loving the people God has already placed in my life.
Legacy: Influence in the Ordinary Moments
Legacy isn’t built in one extraordinary moment. It’s built through thousands of ordinary moments filled with love, grace, patience, and faith.
This camping trip won’t last forever. The camper slide-outs pulled in, the campfire will burn out, and everyone will head home.
But I pray the memories won’t.
I pray my grandchildren remember how deeply they were loved.
I pray they remember hearing prayers before bedtime.
I pray they remember laughter, encouragement, and feeling safe.
Most of all, I pray they remember seeing God’s love reflected in the way I lived.
Influence: Reaching One Person at a Time
The world tells us to chase influence by reaching more people.
God often calls us to influence the people sitting right beside us.
Sometimes changing the world begins with changing one life.
And sometimes that life belongs to a grandchild sitting across the campfire.
Thank you, Lord, for reminding me that my greatest ministry isn’t always found in what I accomplish. Sometimes it’s found in simply being present with the people You have entrusted to me.
May I never overlook the power of ordinary moments to create an extraordinary legacy.
The Master Key Experience is one way to create legacy and loving influence, and it starts with loving yourself.

It is so important for grandparents to be a loving influence – thank you for sharing!
