Live a Life of Purpose – on Purpose!

A life of purpose on purpose is not a destination for me.  It’s a profound journey that when I first began, required intentional, and often painful reflection.  It also required determined, uncomfortable action.

Once I finally got the key to living a life of purpose, it became more comfortable, more rewarding, so much fun.  This journey is now awesome because my wonderful life is on purpose.

Maybe this is the picture you face.  You’re standing at a crossroads, a vast expanse of possibilities stretching out before you.

Each path whispers promises – stay where you are and deal with a life you already know and have lived, a life of repetition, or desperation?  Or does the call of the pathway to seek the life you want and deserve call you?

How do you choose?  How do you select the path that leads to a life not just lived, but lived on purpose?

Choosing a Life of Purpose

What triggered my quest was the realization that I was living a “life of desperation.”  I was successful, but worn out and overworked.  I didn’t feel that sense of freedom or choice that good work normally brings and I didn’t see much of a way up or out.  I wanted a life of purpose, not desperation.

Then, through a friend of mine, I was introduced to the Master Key Experience and I jumped in with both feet.  Six months later, I was supporting myself through my own business, doing work I love and gaining clients from word-of-mouth endorsements and basically no advertising.

Some people aren’t willing to do the mental work, as simple as it is, even when they are fortunate to find the class.  You can’t buy a seat in the class.  You can only get in by being granted a scholarship paid for by the previous class.  I was fortunate to be granted a seat.

Steps to a Life of Purpose

Key points of the class that helped me learn to live a life of purpose on purpose I’m sharing with you here.

Here are four key concepts that continue to guide me on my journey:

1. Self-Discovery

Understand your core values, strengths, and passions.  Engage in self-reflection and assessment to uncover the picture of a life of purpose that truly resonates with you at the level of Soul or Spirit.

As Viktor Frankl suggests in Man’s Search for Meaning, finding meaning in life is a fundamental drive of human beings.

“Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose.”
― Victor Frankl

How do you take action here?  I participated in the MKE Vision Workshop and within 4 hours, had a much better handle on why I’m here and how to focus on living a life of purpose.  Get on the company email list to get notification about the next workshop offering.

After that, I used their proprietary tools to explore my thoughts, feelings, and aspirations further. I wrote out a pretend talk show session where I was interviewed about how I began living my life of purpose… a powerful way to build a life of purpose.

I gained a tremendous amount of personal information on my tendencies, with strategies for improvement by completing the free Color Code test.  The link provided here will give you a free test and a discount if you choose to purchase the full test with recommendations for growth.

This helped me further discover the ME I want to be!

“The unexamined life is not worth living.”

— Socrates

The ancient Greek saying, “Know Thyself,” etched into the temple of Apollo at Delphi, remains the foundation of any purposeful life, and for help in choosing one.

To choose a path that resonates with your soul, it helps to understand the landscape and wisdom of your inner world.

  • What sets your heart ablaze?  What activities make you lose track of time?  What fills you with a sense of flow and fulfillment?
  • What are your innate talents and abilities?  What comes effortlessly to you, while others struggle?
  • What values form the core of your being?  What principles will you not compromise, no matter the cost?

The deeper you dive into the depths of you, the more likely you’ll unearth the raw materials from which to build a life of purpose.

2. Vision Setting

Create a clear and compelling vision for your life. This vision serves as your North Star, guiding your decisions and actions.

In the Master Key Experience, this is put into practice by teaching class members to create a Defined Major Purpose (DMP).  The specific elements that need to be included to help members manifest are unique to this amazing class.  Volunteer guides (experienced past members) help new class members to refine their statements so they manifest.

Stephen Covey emphasizes in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People the importance of beginning with the end in mind to live purposefully.

After getting this important definition in what you want a life of purpose to be, create a vision board that graphically represents your goals and dreams.

Adjust this board as your aspirations evolve, ensuring it remains a true reflection of your desired future, changing it as your goals and vision come to life.  Then photograph it and keep it on your phone as a constant reminder.

Print out a small version, and put it on an index card you continue to review.

Within this vision, define your legend. In Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, Santiago is urged to follow his personal legend, his unique path in life.  This isn’t about grand ambitions or external validation; it’s about aligning with your true nature and contributing your unique gifts to the world.

To define your own personal legend, consider these:

  • What impact do you want to make?  What problems do you yearn to solve?  What positive change do you wish to see in the world?
  • What legacy do you want to leave behind?  How do you want to be remembered by those whose lives you touch?
  • What is it that propels you forward, even when the road ahead seems daunting?
3. Mindfulness and Presence

It’s no secret these days that cultivating mindfulness helps you stay grounded and present. By embracing the present moment, you can make conscious choices that align with your purpose. Jon Kabat-Zinn’s work on mindfulness highlights its role in enhancing awareness and reducing stress.

Practice daily mindfulness meditation, starting with just a few minutes each day, and gradually increasing the duration. Working up to 20-30 minutes a day is recommended. Incorporate mindful breathing exercises into your routine, especially during moments of stress or decision-making.

In the Master Key Experience, students are taught special exercises from Charles Haanel to practice every week.

This “sit” time, I found, is super critical to gaining a life of purpose.

On my spiritual path, I’ve learned to adopt a similar practice, spiritual exercises, that can open a connection to the Divine and help you to explore your greatest potential.

Embrace the power of intention. As Wayne Dyer eloquently stated, “You don’t get what you want; you get what you intend.” Setting clear, powerful intentions is like programming your internal GPS, directing you toward your desired destination. Here’s how you can set that intention:

  • What specific outcomes do you want to create?  What milestones do you want to achieve along your path?
  • What daily actions will move you closer to your goals?  What habits and routines will support your journey?

Intentions are not mere wishes or hopes; they are declarations of your unwavering commitment to live a life of purpose.  They infuse your actions with purpose and meaning, transforming you from a passive bystander into an active creator of your life.

Then, you cultivate a growth mindset to help you get to a life of purpose. A growth mindset empowers you to embrace challenges, persist through setbacks, and view failures as opportunities for growth.  The answers here can help you begin to develop that growth mindset:

  • Are you willing to step outside your comfort zone?  Are you open to learning new skills and developing new strengths?
  • Do you view obstacles as roadblocks or stepping stones?  Do you see failures as defeats or valuable lessons?

A growth mindset is the engine that propels you forward on their journey.  It fuels your resilience, ignites your passion, and transforms you into an unstoppable force for good. Understanding and practicing the Law of Growth really helps you live a life of purpose.

4. Service to Others

Purposefully start living a life of purpose!  That, in itself, can inspire others to begin their own steps forward.

Living a life of purpose involves contributing to the well-being of others. Engaging in acts of service not only enriches your life but also connects you to a larger community, and it just feels good.

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

— Mother Teresa

Volunteer your time and skills to local community organizations or causes that resonate with you. I found an opportunity to serve, build community, and be well entertained by joining volunteers at performing arts venues.

I am still volunteering with a local professional organization’s board to help them meet their goals, establish mentorship and job entry for students and those wanting to make career changes.

When you give more, you get more!  I gained so many friends who are there when I need them.  I had opportunities to share my talents and skills with students, who are seeking a mentor.  My network helped me expand my business.  I can see my life of purpose taking more shape all the time.

Start Your Own Life of Purpose

You can also Initiate small acts of kindness in your daily life, such as helping a neighbor or mentoring someone in your field.  Read here about the impact that class members had by not only performing acts of kindness, but by observing them.

Once you integrate these practices into your daily life, you align your actions with your purpose, creating a fulfilling existence.  You experience that deep sense of living a life of purpose, on purpose.  You can feel you are finally illuminated by the wisdom of ages and the insights of modern masters.

You, too, can live a life of purpose that YOU create.  Now’s the time to do it on purpose.

I give you fair warning.  Living a life of purpose is not a one-time decision; it’s an ongoing journey of self-discovery, intention and growth. And you might find yourself being more happy and successful!

Living a life of purpose is learning to embrace uncertainty and the unknown, absolutely positive that life is working for you.  It’s trust that the Divine, or Infinite Intelligence, is laying out experiences that are ideal for your spiritual growth.

Embrace the adventure, trust your inner wisdom, and unleash the extraordinary potential that lies within you.
