Take a Media Detox to Reconnect with Yourself
A media detox is a great way to reconnect with yourself and nature. Have you ever taken three days off from media, television, personal computer, laptop, mobile and even books and gone to a quiet space in nature where you are all alone without any distractions?
Getting through a media detox and reconnecting with nature is a beautiful thing. Or it is for me.
Imagine you are a tree and have no access to the soil, just a tiny, limited space where your roots cannot grow. You are trapped in a confined space. And you are surrounded by big buildings and concrete, exhaust smoke and just a few hours of sunshine.
How are we supposed to survive like that?
We are living in times of a lot of stress where the norm is living a life of quiet desperation, where we get bombarded with a lot of information, a multitude of impressions each second. We’re in media overwhelm and this is where a media detox comes in handy.
Our nervous systems can´t deal with all of it. Our attention span is steadily decreasing.
If one of our ancestors, let´s say from 200 years ago, were to be suddenly placed in Manhattan at the onslaught of the day, I am sure he would be terrified.
We really need to get back to our roots, back to nature, to do a media detox, and more than once. So much disease is happening, I believe, because we have strayed so far from our true nature, so far from Mother Earth, Gaia.
We are indeed like the tree we were imagining at the beginning. We were not made to live and walk on concrete. Science has found out about grounding, about being in nature, how healthy it is for us.
Of course it is healthy, it is in our true nature to experience it all the time, to be in a regular media detox.
So, what happens when you decide to take 3 days off from blue light screens (television, mobile, laptop, personal computer, etc.), books and people, a full scale media detox, and put yourself in a place in nature?
See it for Yourself
Can you imagine what would happen if you took the tree and placed it in the woods?
I encourage you to do this little exercise.
Close your eyes and visualize the tree in the city and then visualize the same tree in the woods. See it back to its roots. How do you sense its energy, its colors, its roots, its well-being?
And then imagine what would happen to you if you were the tree. Can you feel the difference, the expansion? There is nothing like experiencing it yourself. It can´t be described.
What happened as I experienced myself when I did this media detox, is that I reconnected with myself and with nature. I did not distract myself anymore with external stimuli.
I became present, immersed in the moment. I observed the dance of the rhythms in nature and yourself within it.
I let go of have to do´s. I let go of reaching out for my phone each 20 minutes and became aware that I was used to plenty of to-do´s.
I let my being breathe in the light, the prana, or life force. I listened to: myself, the silence, birds, the wind. I saw flowers, dragonflies, bees, butterflies, squirrels, and hummingbirds.
I connected more with myself and nature. I was experiencing the rewards of a media detox.
Now it’s Your Turn
Try it. Take a day to separate yourself from all the “cement” that gets poured on us every day. Go on a media detox. I’m sure you’ll find peace and you get to fill up your energetic batteries.
This exercise is one of the many wonderful exercises of the Master Key Experience.

Thank you Benjamin, this is powerful. I did something similar while walking in Spain recently. I made my walk a completely sensory experience. I listened to the sounds – wind, birds, my boots on the gravel. I smelled the aromas of nature – especially the eucalyptus forest. I felt the light breeze on my face, the hiking poles in my hands, the backpack on my shoulders. And when I took a break to eat, I focused on the taste of the food and drink. Wow, what an experience!
I was right there with you, Arlene. How wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
Arlene, seems like you spend more time in Spain than you do in Alberta, Canada…and who can blame ya? LOL
In MKE we talk about the cement poured on us that covers the golden child inside, so, Benjamin, I just loved your further helping us imagine us as a tree starving in a concrete jungle and then contrasting that with a tree thriving in rich soil surrounded by all the gifts of nature. Then it was so powerful to make screens and societal clutter into the door blocking the way! You inspired me to do much better with the digital detoxing…Thank you ever so.
This is spot on Shirley mahalo for sharing your insights!
Not by choice, by by a random circumstance a few years back… ended up no internet, no phone, etc for nearly 2 weeks. That’s line cutting the cord…. definitely an experience that everyone should have!
Benjamin, this blog felt calm and clear, just like a quiet walk in nature. Your message gave me space to breathe and reflect. I love how gently you invited me to reconnect with myself. It wasn’t pushy—just peaceful. Thanks for sharing something that feels safe, real, and quietly powerful.
Thank you so much for sharing this critical information, Benjamin! It’s so important for us to get back to nature!! I believe it makes a huge difference. Thank you for sharing this.
Agree back to nature is the way back to humanity acting like humanity 1000%
Mmm… this was like a breath of fresh air! I could feel the stillness in your words. The kind that only comes when we truly unplug and listen. You’re so right… we’re like those trees, boxed in and overstimulated, forgetting that we were meant to expand, to connect, to breathe.
The image of letting our roots stretch back into the soil of stillness, just wow. Thank you for sharing with such honesty and simplicity. It’s a powerful reminder that peace isn’t out there in the scroll… it’s right here, when we stop and return to what’s real.
Beautifully said. 💛
OMGosh Laura I thought the same thing and felt the same stillness and calm coming thru Mahalo!
Powerful information and amazing thoughts Benjamin there is so much in here to help people under the stress of living in the world – Mahalo no go take a day!
Benjamin, you express this beautifully. I am long overdue for a “media detox, social detox and more” my saving grace has been the lessons from MKE. I can always go up to mountain in my ‘Sits’ and come back down refreshed, restored and renewed for short periods. However, to get truly away with Mother Nature is the Gift! Thank you 😊 🙏
Hi Benjamin! I’ve tried every other king of detox, why not a media one? Thanks for the suggestion!
I love, love, LOVE this idea of an electronic detox and visualization exercise of being the tree planted in the woods. My whole body relaxed deeply, quickly. I am yet to do the three day detox and this was a great reminder. Thank you so much!
Great advice and a very clear article, Benjamin! We need another blackout like the one we had in Spain last May! Seriously, I am living in the heart of a big busy city with lots of traffic, 24 hour noise, extreme heat and bad air quality. Combine that with too much screentime and you have the perfect conditions for being miserable and on sensory overload. But my remedy is walking out of this urban sprawl and seek relief in a landscape with a river, agriculture and some vegetation. Not exactly a Nordic forest, but a place where you get grounded and where you feel the blaming effect from nature.
Thanks, Benjamin
I can vouch for that Drem. I was in rural Spain when during the blackout, the best place to be.
