Potent and Powerful Affirmation

We learn about affirmations in the Master Key Experience (MKE). When you repeat a powerful affirmation, you are programming your mind for success.

MKE Affirmation

In Part 9 of the Master Key System, Charles Haanel brings up the concept of affirmation.

Hold in mind the condition desired; affirm it as an already existing fact. This indicates the value of a powerful affirmation. By constant repetition it becomes a part of ourselves. We are actually changing ourselves; are making ourselves what we want to be.

Charles Haanel, Master Key System Part 9 – Introduction

Then Haanel gives us a powerful affirmation:

I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious, and happy.

When I first learned this affirmation, I had trouble getting it right, it just didn’t feel right. But as I said it over and over again, it became a part of me.

Just like Haanel tells us in the lesson Part 9:29-30.

If there is anything you require, it will be well for you to make use of this affirmation; it cannot be improved upon. Use it just as it is; take it into the silence with you, until it sinks into your subconsciousness, so that you can use it anywhere, in your car, in the office, at home; this is the advantage of spiritual methods; they are always available. Spirit is omnipresent, ever ready; all that is required is a proper recognition of its omnipotence, and a willingness or desire to become the recipient of its beneficent effects.

Haanel goes one:

If our predominant mental attitude is one of power, courage, kindliness and sympathy, we shall find that our environment will reflect conditions in correspondence with these thoughts; if it is weak, critical, envious and destructive, we shall find our environment reflecting conditions corresponding to these thoughts.

Then, when I start to slip into old habits, or think about something that is not going the way I want, or when I get frustrated – I say a powerful affirmation. This is the Law of Substitution in action: We cannot think about 2 things at the same time. Choose a positive thought to replace a negative one.

Law of Substitution

That reminds me of the song from The Sound of Music, My Favourite Things. Here are a couple of verses:

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad – Rogers & Hammerstein

DISSECTING the Affirmation

To me, it is like covering all your bases. When you feel that you are in harmony with each of these seven words, you are the best that you can be. I was thinking about these words, and what each means to me. Let’s look at that. Maybe you disagree, but here is my perspective:

  • Whole – By considering myself as whole, there is nothing more that I need to be complete. I am good just as I am.
  • Perfect – I don’t have to be thinner or younger or smarter or more experienced. Like being whole, I am good – perfect in fact. I am perfectly healthy – in mind, body, and spirit.
  • Strong – I am healthy, I can do whatever I want – I can walk 42 km in one day if I want, or walk across an entire country! I have done those things, and believe me, accomplishing a major feat like that helps you to feel that anything is possible!
  • Powerful – I have talents and abilities that I am sharing every day, helping to inspire, to empower, and to encourage. I have other talents and abilities that I have yet to develop and share.
  • Loving – Og Mandino encourages us to love in Scroll 2 of The Greatest Salesman in the World. “I begin this day with love in my heart.”
  • Harmonious – When I am in harmony, with myself and others, I attract good things. When what I want is in harmony with my values and core motives, I am unstoppable!
  • Happy – I like to think of myself as a happy person. Happy and Grateful. Gratitude is almost magical. The more you are grateful for, the more things to be grateful for appear!

Haanel relates to us the story of Frederick Andrews, who used this affirmation to overcome severe physical handicaps and become a strong, straight, well-formed man. Interestingly, he used this affirmation not just for himself, but for others as well. “Whatever you desire for yourself, affirm it for others, and it will help you both,” he said.

This week I have a daughter who is a new Mom, and a bit nervous, so I affirmed “Rachel is whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy.” And my mother-in-law has health issues, so I affirmed “Ruth is whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy.”

Napoleon Hill talks about autosuggestion, which is a form of affirmation. Basically, you are planting seeds of ideas in your subconscious and allowing the subconscious mind to go to work on your behalf, to bring those things you affirm toward you.

Another Powerful Affirmation

Shortly into the Covid-19 pandemic, I thought of a new powerful affirmation: “Love, Hope, Health, Peace, Prosperity.

At the time, in April of 2022, many people were allowing fear of the disease, fear of disruption to their life and livelihood, to paralyze them with negative emotions. And fear can be more contagious than a virus – and you don’t have to be in the same room:) As we know from what we have learned in the MKE, our predominant thoughts and emotions cause the conditions we experience in our lives.

So ‘love, hope, health, peace, prosperity’ made sense to me. If more people thought ‘health’ instead of sickness, ‘hope’ instead of anxiety, ‘peace’ instead of fear, ‘prosperity’ instead of lack – wouldn’t we ALL be better off?

And when I read Scroll 7 of Og Mandino; “This too shall pass.” I thought YES, this shall pass. Well, I know it is now more than two years later and we are still dealing with Covid. But it shall pass, and when it does, we all become stronger for the experience.

As long as we see the positives, are grateful for what we have, and continue to use powerful affirmations to feed our minds with seeds of thoughts that can move us forward.
