Seven Keys to Personal Sovereignty

For as far back as my childhood memory reaches, I have always behaved in a rebellious manner toward authority in all its forms.

As the years passed, I eventually realized that the most important thing was not the rules the outside world tried to impose on me, but rather the ones I chose — or chose not — to impose upon myself, with the goal of living a better life.

It was in this context that I discovered the concept of personal sovereignty for the first time: the ability and the freedom to choose the rules by which I wish to conduct my own life.

Sovereignty is “Service to Others” as opposed to “Service to Self”

According to my own criteria, these rules must first and foremost allow me to live a life of “service to others” while excluding the harmful actions of those who (most often unconsciously) live in “service to self.”

For my life as a sovereign and free human being can only be conceived if it is lived without harming others in any way whatsoever.

Sovereignty is Equality between All Beings

As a sovereign being, I thus have the power to connect and exchange with others on a basis of strict equality.

In other words, interactions take place from human being to human being, each rooted in their own sovereignty, rather than in any of their usual social roles — boss, chief, subordinate; teacher, student; doctor, patient; husband, mother-in-law, etc.

You get the idea!

Sovereignty is Kindness and Love

Another right I claim in my ideal status as a sovereign being is the right to be kind and loving.

I remember that this upside-down society we live in led me for a time — in my thirties — to deliberately deny in myself this natural inclination toward kindness that exists in all human beings.

Fortunately, I eventually came to my senses when a few more awakened souls finally made me understand that kindness was not some congenital weakness but a fundamental human quality — one even capable of pulling humanity out of the nightmare of duality, as the awesome Kindness Week of this Master Key Experience program demonstrates year after year!

Sovereignty is Being Free of Attachment

When I exercise my personal sovereignty, I no longer allow anyone to steal my power or abuse me in any way — whether physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually — through any means, be it blackmail, abuse of power, lies, manipulation, and so on.

When I am sovereign, I hold my full power, my full discernment, my full capacities. I have no ties of attachment to anyone, not even my close family. Of course, I love each member of my family as I love myself, but I am not attached to their physical presence nor to their feelings toward me.

For as long as attachment exists, not only can I not fully live out my sovereignty, but I also prevent these dear ones from living theirs.

Breaking attachment, then, is an act of love — one that also leads to sovereignty.

Sovereignty is Being Free of Addiction

Another crucial aspect directly tied to personal sovereignty is the absence of all addictions (sugar, alcohol, stimulants, food, shopping, relationships, sex, etc.), which are merely signs of an unhappy soul — one unsatisfied with the life in which the ego has trapped it.

To gain sovereignty at this level is to escape the illusion of the ego’s artificial happiness at the expense of the soul — a great challenge, since nearly everything promoted as “success” in our inverted society stifles the soul’s natural momentum.

Sovereignty is mindfulness

Living as a sovereign being is a new way of experiencing reality — one that leads us to be mindful of every action, every word, every thought, at every moment of the day.

For life is not meant to be filled with useless or insignificant chunks of time, as our inverted world constantly suggests, where the trivial and unimportant are heavily promoted, while the essential is neglected, ridiculed, or even sometimes persecuted.

Sovereignty is Being in Harmony with the Divine

In an attempt to summarize the various attributes I associate with the notion of personal sovereignty, let’s say that to exercise our personal sovereignty is to reconnect with our soul, our inner world — the divine part within us.

It is to feel alive again in our true relationship with ourselves, with others, and with the divine, in harmony with the Universal Laws.

But to achieve this, we must first have the courage to heal our shadow areas and to completely free ourselves from the tyranny of our ego — most of the time too weak, too ignorant, and too cowardly to accept, on its own, the salutary change that comes from the natural expansion of our consciousness.

Fortunately, we have the precious tools of the Master Key Experience to help us – these same tools that I wrote about on “The Fundamentals” in a previous article of this blog – and that is why I invite you to join me in the coming Unified New World — made possible through the intense and courageous work of all human beings like you, in quest of their personal sovereignty.

With Love,
Luc
